Bolton Wanderers respond to multiple Dapo Afolayan transfer bids
Dapo #Dapo
Bolton Wanderers have accepted multiple bids for winger Dapo Afolayan, club boss Ian Evatt has confirmed.
Addressing transfer speculation surrounding the 25-year-old, Evatt revealed that multiple offers had matched the club’s valuation of the player.
He explained via The Bolton News: “This is one that will probably separate the fanbase and everyone will have an opinion.”
“The facts, and I won’t give you numbers, but we have had some offers for Dapo [Afolayan] and they have reached our valuation, so we have given permission for it to be discussed with the player himself. We are along in that process at the moment.”
Continuing further, Evatt added: “It is down to the player. The ball is in his court.”
Quiz: Can you name which club Bolton Wanderers signed these 22 players from?
“What I will say is that Dapo has been a brilliant player for us and has given us some wonderful moments but like any other he has 18 months left on his contract and someone has met his valuation, what we believe him to be worth, and we will see how things progress and develop from there.”
One of the club’s known to have met the price tag for Afolayan is German club St Pauli.
Two Championship clubs are also said to be monitoring the situation.
The Verdict
It looks as though Dapo Afolayan’s time at Bolton Wanderers could be set to come to an end.
As Ian Evatt points out, it could be a move that divides opinion, however, the club’s reasoning for accepting the bids seems clear.
Most clubs in the EFL have valuations on their players which, if met, will be accepted and with Afolayan’s contract expiring in 18 months, Bolton clearly see this as a good time to cash in on their asset.
It will certainly be interesting to find out which clubs have had bids accepted, with only one of them having been named at this stage.
