Chelsea boss Frank Lampard reveals the six words he said to Solskjaer after Man Utd draw

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has revealed what he said to Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the pair embraced in the dugouts following their two sides’ goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Both teams set up with five at the back which limited the entertainment on offer at the Theatre of Dreams.

Marcus Rashford had the best opportunities for the hosts but he was unable to beat the fantastic Edouard Mendy.

Lampard was delighted to come away with a point and a clean sheet and he even shared a joke with his United counterpart after the full-time whistle.

When asked what he told the Red Devils manager, Lampard said: “It wasn’t a classic, was it? I said that.

“If I was at half-five waiting for Man U and Chelsea, and you’re a neutral, you want more.

“But I think at the start of this season I’m watching games, tough games.

“People are finding the same and we have to be humble to that and work and get better.”

Although United had the cleared chances, Chelsea had a good shout for a penalty turned down midway through the first half when Cesar Azpilicueta was brought down in the box by Harry Maguire.

Referee Martin Atkinson opted against checking the incident on the pitch-side VAR monitor, which Lampard feels was a mistake.

“It was a clear penalty. Clear penalty. I didn’t see it from where I was standing at the time and I know it’s a hard call for the referee on the pitch but that’s why we brought VAR into the game.

“VAR was very quick to dismiss it in my opinion. It should take time, the referee should watch the monitor.

“If he watches the monitor he has to give a penalty. It’s very confusing in my opinion.

He added: “There’s a frustration at the fact when something moves seemingly in the right direction, we’re all pretty happy with referees going to the monitor.

“It happened a bit more at the start of the season. The players on the pitch should always say it and the referee should always take responsibility.

“We have that back to the referee with the monitor but for some reason we’ve come off that. I don’t understand it.

“It was an easy decision, not a difficult one for the VAR to give anyway but the referee on the pitch should make the main call.

“Ask him to review it and if that happened today it would have been a penalty.”
