There was plenty of action in the Premier League to enjoy on Tuesday evening, including first versus third as Arsenal host Newcastle.

Arsenal frustrated by well-organised Newcastle

Arsenal were forced to share the points with Newcastle as Eddie Howe’s men battled to a goalless draw.

The game started with Arsenal relentlessly pushing for the opener as Newcastle had their backs to the wall, before an intense tactical battle saw both sides cancel each other out in the first half.

Eddie Howe’s men nearly snuck an opener just before the half-time whistle as Kieran Trippier’s corner was flicked on by Fabian Schär and somehow headed over the bar by Joelinton at the far post.

With just over ten minutes to play, Gabriel Martinelli steered a glancing header only just wide of the post from a corner.

As Arsenal continued to probe, Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope made a superb stop with an outstretched leg to deny an almost certain goal from Eddie Nketiah.

The home side were screaming for a penalty for a handball from Jacob Murphy inside the box in stoppage time, but after a VAR check nothing was given.

Fulham contain Leicester pressure to take narrow win

Fulham created plenty of chances early on, and had their reward when Aleksandar Mitrović chested down an excellent cross from Willian and delivered the finish past Danny Ward.

The Foxes should’ve been level just a few minutes later when Youri Tielemans picked out an unmarked Ayoze Pérez, but the Spaniard missed that golden opportunity from only six yards out.

Leicester haven’t earned a single point from a losing position this season, but Harvey Barnes went close to finding the equaliser only for Fulham stopper Bernd Leno to block his shot.

With ten minutes to go, Tielemans hit a rocket of a shot onto the crossbar as Brendan Rodgers’ side continued to search for their opening goal, but they ultimately came up short.

Everton humiliated at home to Brighton

Frank Lampard was placed under huge pressure as his Everton side were humiliated at home to Brighton.

Everton started well and almost had the lead inside the opening five minutes when Alex Iwobi forced an excellent one-handed save from Robert Sánchez after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had picked up a loose ball inside the box.

Yet it was the away side that would opening the scoring as Japan international Kaoru Mitoma capitalised on a misplaced crossfield ball to cut inside and slot home past Jordan Pickford.

Brighton’s lead was almost immediately doubled when forward Evan Ferguson – making his full Premier League debut – crashed a shot onto the base of the left-hand post.

The 18-year-old didn’t have to wait long for his goal though, as he doubled Brighton’s lead within six minutes of the restart, slotting home his second in as many games.

There was more misery to come for the Toffees as Ferguson turned provider, squaring the ball to Solly March for a simple finish past Pickford.

A rampant Brighton were enjoying their football as Pascal Groß raced through the Everton defence to lob the ball into the net.

Everton fans will take no joy from a late consolation goal as Iwobi won a late penalty, which was converted by Demarai Gray.

Rashford seals the points for Man Utd

Manchester United dominated possession in the early stages of the game but created no clear-cut chances.

That was, until Christian Eriksen delivered an excellent ball to Casemiro from a free-kick as the Brazilian volleyed home with a side-footed attempt into the roof of the net.

Bournemouth were certainly making life difficult for the home side, as a superb piece of defending from Lloyd Kelly denied an easy tap-in for Marcus Rashford.

Into the second half and some outstanding work from Luke Shaw doubled Man Utd’s lead, starting the attack inside his own half, making the run to receive the ball back from Alejandro Garnacho and finishing with his right foot.

Casemiro continued his outstanding contribution with an excellent cross into box towards Anthony Martial, who probably should’ve finished the chance but couldn’t steer his header into the net from only a few yards out.

Yet some sloppy play almost let Bournemouth in as David De Gea was forced to make three saves in as many minutes to keep the visitors from scoring.

The points were sealed when the in-form Marcus Rashford netted for the fifth game in a row at Old Trafford and De Gea made another save to cap an excellent performance from the Spaniard.
