‘Undisputed’ star Skip Bayless under fire for ‘sick’ tweet after Damar Hamlin injury

Skip Bayless, who has made his money slinging hot takes, is now under fire himself for a tweet he wrote in the moments following the frightening injury to Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin Monday night.

While people at the game and watching at home were praying for Hamlin after he was carried to the hospital in critical condition after collapsing on the field, Bayless seemed at least slightly preoccupied with the game being played.

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game — but how?” the star of Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” tweeted. “This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

More than 50 minutes later, long after the damage was done, Bayless attempted to clarify the tweet.

“Nothing is more important than that young man’s health,” he tweeted. “That was the point of my last tweet. I’m sorry if I was misunderstood but his health is all that matters. Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him and will continue to.”

Folks on Twitter — many of whom were only preoccupied with sending prayers and well wishes for Hamlin while realizing that the game was an afterthought — were disgusted by Bayless’ thoughts on playing the game, though, in light of the situation.

“You’re a sick individual. Real talk,” former Celtics and TV sports personality Kendrick Perkins tweeted at Bayless.

Former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was more blunt.

“(Expletive) you Skip Bayless,” Bryant tweeted before adding in a follow-up, “WE NEED TO CANCEL @RealSkipBayless ASAP!!!”

Hamlin, 24, who played his high school ball at Pittsburgh Central Catholic before suiting up for Pitt, was down on the field, receiving CPR, for 10 minutes before being taken to a hospital in the Cincinnati area. ESPN said on air that he was in critical condition.

Darrelle Revis, who is from Aliquippa and also played at Pitt before going on to become one of the best corners in NFL history, also took offense with Bayless’ tweet saying that he expected more.

“Skip Bayless is a Ducking Idiot man,” former Steelers quarterback Devlin Hodges said.

Former NBA guard Isaiah Thomas responded to Bayless’ tweet by writing, “I hope they fire you bro!!! For you to even THINK of the game is very sad.”

“One of the worst tweets in sports media history,” Kyle Sockwell responded.

According to Twitter, Bayless’s post had been viewed more than 60 million times before midnight and many of the responses to it were similar.

Expect an apology on Tuesday morning’s “Undisputed,” and hopefully there is some good news about Hamlin by then, too.
