Fox cameras catch meme-worthy 49ers reaction to missed Robbie Gould field goal

San Francisco 49ers rookie Jason Poe was the Internet’s main character for a brief moment during Sunday’s thrilling 37-34 overtime win against the Raiders in Las Vegas.
Poe, who’s currently on the practice squad and didn’t dress for Sunday’s game, popped up in the background of a replay of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on the sideline reacting to Robbie Gould’s missed field goal with two seconds to play in regulation. Purdy looks down for a brief second after the miss, but Poe can be seen with a huge smile on his face, yelling and wiggling around as the kick goes up, only to have all expression wiped from his face after the miss. A teammate can be seen grabbing him when he starts to get overexcited.
The Internet did not miss any of it.
“Look at the reaction in the background of the missed FG,” one fan tweeted.
“Somebody had to check the 49ers practice player on that missed FG. Whoops,” tweeted another.
“Missed FG meme,” tweeted one fan along with a crying laughing emoji.
It’s hard to blame Poe for his reaction, however. Gould has been one of the most clutch kickers in the league during his career — he holds the NFL record for field goals made in the playoffs without a miss (17), including a game-winner against the Packers in the NFC Divisional Round last season that just about broke the fanbase. Gould made a record 276-of-323 (85.4%) field goals during his 11 years with the Chicago Bears, and holds their franchise records in career scoring, field goals made in a season, and field goals of at least 50 yards.
Gould, of course, redeemed himself in overtime, hitting the game-winner to extend the Niners’ win streak to nine. Sunday’s win left them just two outcomes away from securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC and the coveted first-round bye.
