Canada goose freed from frozen sand along Lake Michigan
Michigan #Michigan
Personnel from multiple departments worked together to free a goose from frozen sand along Lake Michigan.
Conservation officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources were called to the lakeshore after the Canada goose was found frozen in wet sand at Indiana Dunes State Park, which is located within a 15,349-acre national park of the same name with miles of Lake Michigan shoreline.
Several bystanders had already attempted to free the goose when the COs arrived but were unsuccessful.
To prevent further risk to the public and to help the animal, Porter Volunteer Firefighters were called to the scene near the icy Great Lake.
Warmer water was applied to the area around the goose, which was safely removed from the frozen beach.
The bird was then transported to a local licensed wildlife rehabilitation and veterinarian’s facility for treatment. The goose is expected to recover.
