Anna Kendrick Trolls Elon Musk After Returning to Twitter: ‘Weird’

Elon #Elon

Anna Kendrick poked fun at Twitter owner Elon Musk’s recent controversies, as she returned to the platform after a three-month hiatus.

The actress took a break from social media to focus on making her directorial debut, The Dating Game, about serial killer, Rodney Alcala.

Her first tweet back mocked Musk who in that time had finalized his purchase of Twitter and has been plagued with scandal, including firing thousands of staff around the world.

“Hey guys! What’s been going on?? I was away directing my first movie, so I haven’t really been on Twitter in 3 months! I hope a bunch of weird s*** didn’t go down on this app while I was away! 😀” Kendrick tweeted.

Fans flocked to reply and retweet Kendrick, with many sending her sarcastic responses, pretending everything had been business as usual.

“Not at all, everything has been totally normal and fine,” replied one fan.

Another added: “Everything’s cool.”

And a third wrote their cat got a new item of clothing: “Goose got a new Christmas sweater.”

Musk is now poised to step down as CEO of Twitter after he ran on a poll on his account asking the public whether he should leave the role.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk tweeted on Sunday.

More than half of the 17.5 million votes agreed he should step down, while 42.5 percent said he should not.

Musk has not responded to the results of the poll, instead retweeting stats about Twitter’s performance during the FIFA World Cup and tweets from his automotive company, Tesla.

The mogul bought Twitter in October for $44 billion and reinstated a number of banned accounts, including former U.S. president, Donald Trump, and rapper, Kanye West, who was quickly suspended again for antisemitic tweets.

Musk also introduced an $8 monthly fee for account verification with the blue checkmark, which was previously a function given to authenticate the accounts of celebrities, officials, large companies or another significant figures.

As he bought Twitter, Musk declared himself a “free speech absolutist,” but recently suspended the accounts of a number of prominent journalists.

He explained he did so because he believed they had allegedly endangered his family by “doxing,” by sharing the real-time location of his private jet. But some of them claimed they only wrote about the ElonJet account which tracked the plane and was based on information widely available in the public domain.

The journalists have since had their accounts re-instated after Musk ran a poll asking how long they should be suspended for.

Another recent controversial decision came when Twitter introduced a policy to stop users from talking about competing social media platforms on the site.

“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter,” Twitter Support’s official account tweeted on Sunday.

“Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.”
