Australian cricketers have consoled members of the Queensland Police Service before the First Test at the Gabba, after a moment’s silence was held for the three victims of the shooting at west of Brisbane.

Prior to the beginning of play against South Africa, Queensland police officers joined players on the field for a tribute to officers Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold, and neighbour Alan Dare, who were shot and killed on Monday night during a siege in Wieambilla.

Test cricketers David Warner and Steve Smith were among the Australian cricketers to console visibly emotional police officers after the tribute.

The Gabba crowd also greeted the officers on the field with a large round of applause prior to the moment’s silence.
