Thunder: Ousmane Dieng to miss 6 weeks with right wrist injury

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Ousmane Dieng suffered a small, non-displaced fracture in his right wrist and will miss at least six weeks, the team announced.

Dieng suffered the injury Wednesday on assignment in the NBA G League with the OKC Blue. He appeared to take a hard landing on his right hand after chasing after a loose ball. He would check out in the fourth quarter and not return to the game.

He finished with eight points, three assists and two rebounds in 26 minutes.

The 11th pick previously suffered a slight chip fracture in the same wrist with the Thunder in July during the Las Vegas Summer League. He eventually recovered from the injury and was cleared to participate with the team in training camp.

Dieng is averaging 15.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.3 blocks on 45.3% shooting from the field in 11 games on assignment with the Blue. He has registered four double-doubles and has finished in double figures nine times.

The injury came as Dieng was in a groove on the court with the Blue. He had neared a double-double in four straight games and was coming off of a 21-point, 16-rebound effort on Tuesday versus the Salt Lake City Stars. His 16 rebounds were a season high.

The Thunder planned to have Dieng spend time with the Blue throughout the season to develop and adjust to the competition. He will now spend the next several weeks rehabbing from the injury but looks to have a bright future ahead with the team.
