But it turns out that in real life funnyman Paul Riley, who plays him, is a dab hand with the guitar.

Singer Callum Beattie pulled him onstage to play during a gig in Glasgow this week.

Callum told the crowd: “Ladies and gentlemen we know him as Paul Riley.

“You might know him as Winston from Still Game.”

Paul took to the stage of the packed SWG3 venue in a kilt with his guitar in his hand.

One delighted fan screamed: “Oh my god.”

Paul duetted with Callum on a version of David Bowie’s Heroes.

And he even appeared to give a nod to Winston when he sang one of the lines.

Paul piped up with: “I drink all the time.”

Paul appeared to be having a whale of a time as he strummed and sang along with Callum, who lives in Edinburgh.

At the end the pair even shared a mic and sang together.

As he left the stage to resounding applause, Callum said: “F**k me. That was fun.”

One member of the crowd said: “That was unreal. Who knew that Winston from Still Game was a secret rock star?

“All I knew about him was that he had a red face and a gammy leg. He was so good on stage.

“I’ll look at him a bit differently whenever I watch Still Game from now on.”

Callum is set to perform two sellout gigs back to back at SWG3

After the first, he said: “Well Glasgow, you were epic. I cannot wait to do it all again.”
