‘He will be profoundly missed’: Liberal MP Jim Carr dead at 71

Liberal MP and longtime politician Jim Carr has died.

On Monday, Government House leader Mark Holland rose in the House of Commons to announce Carr’s death. House Speaker Anthony Rota then adjourned for the day out of respect.

The Winnipeg MP jumped from provincial politics to the federal sphere in 2015. He held several portfolios, including minister of natural resources and minister of international trade diversification, and was recently appointed as special representative for the Prairies.
