Michael Neser snares crucial wicket of West Indies captain after Aussies declare — LIVE

Neser #Neser

Australia’s march to a 2-0 series win over the West Indies has continued in Adelaide where the hosts dominated another day of the Frank-Worrell series on Friday.

Having declared shortly before tea on day 2 with 7-511 on the board, late inclusion Michael Neser, Nathan Lyon and Cameron Green all struck in the final session to have the West Indies in strife at 4-102.

Rookie opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Anderson Phillip are the unbeaten batters on 47 and 1 respectively.

The West Indies survived a tricky five overs before tea, but crumbled under lights in the final session to open up the possibility of a follow-on on day three.

After 13 shaky overs, Neser – a late inclusion for Josh Hazlewood – made the early breakthrough for Australia with a peach outside off that nipped away and found the outside edge of Kraigg Brathwaite for 19.

Just six overs later, Neser had his second wicket with Shamarh Brooks (8) gone in a near carbon copy of the West Indies’ first dismissal.

Neser made his Test debut at the Adelaide Oval last year and only took two wickets for the entire Test.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon went past Shane Warne’s Adelaide Oval record with his 57th Test scalp at the ground being Jermaine Blackwood (3), caught and bowled.

Devon Thomas (19) then chopped on to Cameron Green shortly before stumps to leave the West Indies four down overnight.

Earlier, Marnus Labuschagne added 43 runs to his overnight score before Thomas found his outside edge, and Joshua Da Silva took a sharp catch up to the stumps.

Fellow century-maker Travis Head pushed on towards a double century, but was cruelly denied the milestone after a horror running mix-up with Cameron Green, ending in his dismissal for 175.

Green, with Australia one ball shy of having faced 300 overs in the series, finally got his chance to bat against the West Indies. But it was a difficult 42-ball stay with the all-rounder looking nervy before eventually being bowled by Alzarri Joseph for nine.

Alex Carey had no such troubles with his first innings, scoring a classy 41 not out, while Michael Neser was the last wicket to fall before the declaration, out for 18 off 35.

Play continues at 3pm AEDT on Saturday.
