Tyson Fury has thanked Wayne Rooney for his recent support and has joked the former Manchester United superstar would be ideal sparring for a potential Oleksandr Usyk fight.

After defeating Derek Chisora last weekend, Rooney was quick to heap praise on Fury and even went as far to suggest that WBC heavyweight champion be knighted for his services to sport.

Fury, who could enhance his legacy even further if he defeats Usyk next year, is grateful for Rooney’s assessment of his credentials.

Since becoming world champion in 2015 when defeating Wladimir Klitschko, Fury has added to his ledger the names of Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

Rooney has repeatedly been impressed with the unbeaten fighter and that’s led to Fury showing appreciation to the legendary footballer.

“Wayne Rooney is a proper legend, and I grew up watching him as a youngster for England and United. So, that’s amazing. Amazing speech from him,” said Fury when speaking to Talksport.

“He’s a massive boxing fan, he comes from a boxing family as well. So, hopefully, we can have a little spar in the future sometime. I do need someone smaller to prepare for Usyk. Wayne, if you’re listening, get on the blower, son.”
