Dan’s Daily: Boeser Negotiating Trade, Penguins Infuriate Binnginton
Boeser #Boeser
It was a wild scene at PPG Paints Arena, as one goalie wanted to fight, one goalie face-planted, and the Pittsburgh Penguins shrugged en route to a 6-2 beatdown of the St. Louis Blues. Kasperi Kapanen had an “excuse me” hat trick, and Bryan Rust had four points. On the NHL trade scene, the Vancouver Canucks have given Brock Boeser permission to negotiate his own trade. The Edmonton Oilers are shopping for an angry forward. The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators might have something cooking, and is there trouble behind the scenes in Philly?
I’m not sure I’ve experienced a few moments quite like what we saw at PPG on Saturday. Holiday games should contain a little something the kids talk about for the rest of their lives. Mario always made sure the holiday crowd saw something, but a goalie losing his marbles is always fun, too.
It was a huge news day on Saturday. Make sure to follow @SportsNowPgh for all of the Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers stories in one place.
Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates
First, the game:
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Dave Molinari’s indefatigable, always a little salty, and always fun Penguins postgame.
Kasperi Kapanen called it “the easiest hat trick in history.” Kapanen busted out. Go inside the Penguins’ locker room.
PHN+: How they did it and the player grades for subscribers. The PHN+ Pittsburgh Penguins report card.
Now the Penguins news:
Coach Mike Sullivan provided an update, which included light skating, for Kris Letang.
And the wild sequence with Binnington. Jason Zucker got under his skin, and the goalie wanted to go. Then Thomas Greiss face-planted. The Pittsburgh Penguins drove ’em nuts.
Steelers Now:
It is a Steelers Sunday. Remember when everyone gathered around old tube TVs with a Terrible Towel on top? I kinda miss those days.
Pittsburgh Baseball Now: WOW– John Perrotto confirms the initial report. Bryan Reynolds requested a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Can you blame him? Dear God in Heaven, when will MLB and the PA step into this mess?? Oh wait, they’re all drunk with excess internet cash and LA TV money, while the locusts known as the Nuttings devour what used to be a great baseball city.
Anyway … I’ll probably have more pointed comments tonight on Final Word on WXPI after football.
NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman reports Brock Boeser has been permitted to put himself on the NHL trade block and negotiate a deal out of Vancouver.
Montreal Hockey Now: Is it Josh Anderson? Five — FIVE — Ottawa Senators scouts and personnel were at the Canadiens game Saturday, continuing heavy Ottawa scouting of the Montreal Canadiens.
The Athletic ($): The Edmonton Oilers are shopping the NHL trade market for a bruiser.
Philly Hockey Now: Are John Tortorella and Chuck Fletcher on the same page with the Philadelphia Flyers?
Washington Hockey Now: More injuries. ANOTHER loss. In this increasingly lost season, the Washington Capitals lose to Calgary.
Vegas: Jack Eichel was injured, a rookie defenseman got his shot, and Owen Krepps broke down the Vegas Golden Knights win over Detroit.
Detroit: The flip side. The Red Wings are in a playoff spot right behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, but their margin of error is small. Detroit Red Wings coverage.
