Owen Wilson Channels Bob Ross in This First Look at PAINT

Owen #Owen

This is not a drill! Owen Wilson and his glorious perm are finally on display in this image from the movie Paint, which comes out April 28, 2023. The hair and outfit are just right, along with the beautiful snowy landscape on the canvas. But Wilson is not actually playing Bob Ross, though clearly his character and the iconic host of The Joy of Painting have a lot in common. Here’s the movie’s official description from IFC:

Carl Nargle, a local treasure with a soothing whisper of a voice, has been hosting his own painting show on Vermont public television for decades. His art captivates and has attracted the attention of many women over the years, especially those who work at the station. But Carl is in a rut, and the station isn’t pulling in ratings. When a new painter is hired to revitalize the channel, Carl’s own fears regarding his talents as a painter are brought to the forefront.

As far as we know, no one ever tried to oust Bob Ross during his run on public television from 1983-1994 but it’s an intriguing plot device. Here’s hoping it includes a similar backstory as Ross’ 20 year military career. Paint, which we learned about from Entertainment Weekly, also stars Stephen Root, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Michaela Watkins, and Ciara Renée. Owen Wilson has a lot planned for 2023. He also returns as Mobius in season two of Loki and the voice of everyone’s favorite race car in a Cars TV show.

The Joy of Painting was popular in its time and has seen a huge resurgence in the past few years. No matter how long you’ve been a fan, there’s something for everyone. Some people paint along while others play drinking games. Ross’ trademark calm voice and rhythmic brushstrokes are also the perfect way to fall into a deep sleep.
