I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers were left bewildered when Boy George said Charlene White deserved a treat for cooking for the camp, despite complaining about her ‘horrible’ food.

In Wednesday night’s episode, the campmates were offered a prize of a beach day in Australia, with the stars able to win challenges and pick anyone of their choice for the treat.

The celebrities had to collect balls for either themselves or their co-stars as nominations for the opportunity, with three celebrities then randomly being chosen from a tombola.

After winning his challenge, Boy George, 61, decided to pick a ball for Charlene, 42, saying she deserved a treat after spending a week as head chef cooking for the whole camp.

He nominated her for the prize draw because she ‘deserved it’ after her efforts cooking, before she instead took on the role of deputy leader, with Matt Hancock serving as camp leader.

The singer then returned to camp with her ball and announced to his fellow campmates that he had put forward Charlene, adding her ball to the tombola.

However, baffled viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their confusion about his gesture, which came after he branded Charlene a ‘bossy boots’ in the kitchen and deemed her cooking ‘horrible’.

One person said: ‘Boy George picking Charlene “because you’ve been feeding us” when he’s been b***hing about her cooking the whole week.’

Another commented: ‘Why did Boy George have to announce to everyone that he chose a ball for Charlene? If anyone else did that he would hate it and call them attention seeking.’

‘Wasn’t Boy George once annoyed at Charlene for taking over the cooking,’ a third questioned.

While another added: ‘Boy George spent all last week complaining about Charlene’s cooking then he rewards her for it & makes sure everyone knows.’

Another wrote: ‘ofc Boy George had to announce that he chose Charlene, because he wants to seem like a good person.’

Boy George nominating Charlene came after the stars were offered a day at the beach in Australia, no doubt a welcome break from the jungle camp, but only if they won a few challenges first.

The stars were given 24 hours to collect as many balls as they could to win the ultimate prize.  Three campmates would be chosen for the beach day.

‘Over the next 24 hours you will get opportunities to win more balls. Tomorrow, all the balls will be placed in a tombola and three will be picked at random,’ Charlene White read from a laminate.

‘The three lucky celebrities will fly off and enjoy a day at the beach. The more balls a celebrity has, the greater the chance of winning the prize.’

One challenge some of the campmates had to complete to win a ball was at the Unfair Funfair, collecting water in their helmets for a water gun to move a horse along a track.

Another challenge was a ‘buzz wire game’ and another was the Terrible Teacups.  Boy George chanted as he played the teacups, before saying he was ‘useless’.

After the task, he was able to nominate someone to go to the beach and picked Charlene, saying she ‘deserved it’ after cooking for them.

‘I don’t want to go, I want you to go,’ he insisted as Charlene told him to ‘stop it’ and gushed over his kind gesture.

‘You deserve it Charlene,’ he added.

After returning to main camp, Boy George shared with the group who he had decided to nominate for the prize as he added her ball to the tombola.

‘I’m giving this to Charlene, just so you know, because she’s been our mum and she’s been cooking for us,’ he announced.

His seemingly kind gesture came after he took a swipe at ‘bossy’ Charlene as he said he didn’t want to be ‘told what to do’ last week.

The singer branded the camp’s meal of mud crabs and mushrooms as ‘horrible’ and said it made him feel ‘sick’ as he criticised presenter Charlene’s culinary skills.

He added that he was a ‘good cook’ in the first sign of tension as he, Chris Moyles, Scarlette Douglas and Olivia Attwood joined the celebrities in the main camp.

In the awkward swipe, Boy George said he wouldn’t be told what to do by ‘a bossy boots’ as he shared his dismay at the ‘kitchen hierarchy’, which saw Charlene, 42, and Mike Tindall offer to cook.

Speaking to Chris Moyles, he fumed: ‘I felt sick afterwards, I don’t think the mushrooms were cooked. I feel like there’s a bit of hierarchy in the kitchen with Mike [Tindall] and Charlene, there’s this patriarchy.

‘I don’t want to be told what to do by someone, quite a bossy boots.’

Radio presenter Chris, 48, admitted in the Bush Telegraph after their conversation that Boy George doesn’t like ‘authority’ as he commented on his rant.

Boy George said he was a ‘good cook’ as he shared his desire to have a go at feeding the main camp, adding: ‘When someone’s already decided they’re in charge of the kitchen, it’s difficult to have your say.’

The Karma Chameleon star became embroiled in further cooking drama when he accused Matt Hancock of ‘kicking off’ by asking him to wash potatoes for dinner.

He was assigned with cleaning duties by new camp leader Matt, 44, and his deputy Charlene and was seen undertaking his new tasks on Monday.

But things became tense as the celebrities were presented with their dinner of camel shoulder, with the former health secretary asking whether the side of potatoes could be washed before being cooked.

The new camp rules mean the voted leaders cannot help with any of the jobs in camp while the other stars must only do the chores assigned to them.

After Matt asked if the potatoes could be cleaned, George fumed and accused his co-star of ‘kicking off’ with the request, before raging ‘you f**king clean them’ behind his back.

The tension began when Matt, who is not allowed to get involved with chores in his new role as leader, asked the camp if the potatoes could be cleaned for dinner.

‘Do you think washer-uppers could clean those potatoes? Because those potatoes are quite dirty,’ he asked.

Scarlette Douglas told him it was a ‘good idea’ before George accused Matt of getting ‘feisty’ and enjoying his power as he spoke about the request in the Bush Telegraph.

‘Matt was seen getting a little bit feisty earlier on when we were about to cook the meal,’ he fumed.

‘The bag came down and there were some potatoes and Matt started telling everyone he wanted them washed, and I was like ‘oh, she’s loving this bit of power’.’

Later speaking to his campmate Seann Walsh, George then accused Matt of ‘kicking off’ by asking him to wash the potatoes.

‘Matt’s kicking off, he’s a bit enjoying his power,’ George said as his co-star Seann laughed. ‘Clean the potatoes, you f**king clean them!’

‘Food divides people, it really does,’ he added as he spoke in the Bush Telegraph.
