Tier 2 lockdown: What is tier 2?

People living in tier 2 areas will be banned from meeting anyone not in their household or bubble indoors, as are the existing rules in local lockdowns. 

They will still be able to meet outdoors, including in private gardens, as long as adherence to the rule of six is kept up. 

Greater Manchester is expected to remain in tier 2 for now after local leaders said the scheme would bankrupt minimum wage workers in the area. 

But any of the worst-hit areas, which includes Manchester, Nottingham and Newcastle, could be upgraded to tier 3 at any given time.
