James Carragher fumes at VAR controversy in Brighton vs Aston Villa – ‘I can’t believe it’

“It’s nothing to do with the referee, it’s VAR. Jarred Gillet’s on VAR, I can’t believe he hasn’t asked the referee to go and have a look at it.”
Brighton had earlier taken the lead with a goal inside the first minute. A mistake from Douglas Luiz was pounced on by Alexis Mac Allister to strike past his Argentina team-mate Emiliano Martinez.
Villa equalised from the penalty spot, with Danny Ings’ effort just too strong for Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal. Ings turned the game on its head in the 54th minute when his deflected effort left Sanchez helpless.
Then came the controversial moment which saw Brighton denied what they felt was a penalty. Villa held on to pick up their first away win in the league this season, as Unai Emery made it back to back victories in his first two league games in charge.
