Prescott ran for 9 yards with 6:46 left in the third quarter. As defensive back Logan Ryan tackled him, Prescott went down awkwardly, with his ankle bending at an extreme angle.
Prescott was carted off the field. The Cowboys later announced he was being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
It was an emotional moment in Dallas, as Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett (the Cowboys’ former head coach) came over to console Mike McCarthy, the man who replaced him in that job this season.
Before Prescott was carted off, his teammates came over to wish him well. Prescott wept into a towel as he left the field. He raised his right fist to acknowledge fans, his eyes red with tears.
Prescott was replaced by Andy Dalton, with the Cowboys leading 24-23. The Cowboys extended their lead to 31-23 soon thereafter, as Ezekiel Elliott ran for a 12-yard touchdown with 5:03 left in the third quarter.

Prescott started from the get-go with the Cowboys in 2016. He has never missed a start in his NFL career. Sunday marked his 69th start with Dallas.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sent well wishes to Prescott immediately after his injury:
