Ryan Reynolds confirms on The Tonight Show he is trying to buy the Ottawa Senators

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds confirmed on The Tonight Show that he is trying to buy NHL hockey team the Ottawa Senators.

“Yes, that is true,” he responded when the show’s host, comedian Jimmy Fallon, asked if the rumours he wanted to buy the team were accurate.

“It’s very expensive,” Reynolds added. “I need a partner with really deep pockets. It’s called a consortium … when you form a group together to buy an entity. It’s such a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy.”

The Deadpool star is from Vancouver, but he also grew up in Ottawa’s Vanier neighbourhood. As a Canadian, he explained to Fallon how hockey is part of his DNA.

“Children are eased out of the womb in ice skates,” he said.

  • This isn’t the first sports team that has caught Reynolds’ eye. In 2020, he bought a U.K. football club in North Wales, Wrexham AFC, along with partner and fellow actor Rob McElhenny.

    And if buying the Ottawa Senators doesn’t work out, Reynolds joked that he has another plan.

    “I’ll buy a U.S. senator, which anyone can afford,” he said.
