Another prominent liberal is publicly announcing their intention to get off of Twitter after Elon Musk completed his takeover bid of the platform.
During a segment of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg argued the company has become a “mess.”
“He’s already called back some of the workforce he fired a few days ago. He’s putting his $8 charge for blue-check verification on hold. First, it was going to be $20. Now it’s going to be $8,” Goldberg said. “He also suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating him on a parody account.”
She continued, “I mean, I’m getting off. I’m getting off today. Because I just feel like it’s so messy. And I’m tired of now having had certain kinds of attitudes blocked, and now they’re back on.”
“I’m going to get out. And if it settles down and I feel more comfortable, maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter,” she added.
As of Monday morning, Goldberg has 1.6 million followers on Twitter.

“I stopped reading the comments years ago. But [Twitter has] become such a hellscape,” she continued. “Now you’ve got Elon Musk turning it into something that it was never intended to be.”
She added, “He said it’s going to be the public square. Well, I don’t want to be a part of that public square.”
Goldberg’s comments come after comedian Kathy Griffin’s Twitter account was suspended after she posted several parody messages impersonating Musk.
On Sunday evening, Musk tweeted, “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.”
“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue,” he continued.
Finally, Musk added, “Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark.”
Several other celebrities have announced their plan to leave Twitter after Musk officially became its owner.
