Chelsea boss Graham Potter recalled Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount for his return to former club Brighton.
Potter, who received a mixed response when he stepped off the team coach at the Amex Stadium, dropped Jorginho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the bench following the midweek Champions League win at RB Salzburg.
Brighton handed a first Premier League start to Japan winger Kaoru Mitoma as part of two changes.
Pervis Estupinan also returned for the Seagulls, who remain without a win under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, with Joel Veltman and Danny Welbeck absent from the matchday squad.

Brighton started the game at an incredible pace and forced Silva into two clearances off the line before Trossard opened the scoring in the fifth minute. He rounded Kepa before shooting past Cucurella on the line. Loftus-Cheek then scored Chelsea’s first own goal of the half after turning home March’s corner in the 14th minute. Sanchez was forced into some brilliant saves, the most notable being from a Gallagher header, but Brighton then struck a third before the break as Chalobah tuned Estupinan’s cross into his own net. Havertz quickly pulled a goal back at the start of the second half as he headed home following a perfect cross from Gallagher. Chelsea pushed for more goals but to no avail and Gross finished the game off in added time as he scored from a rebound, after Mendy saved two shots from Enciso, to make it 4-1.
