Giannis Antetokounmpo helping families with diaper donations

Giannis Antetokounmpo may be Milwaukee’s superstar, but at home, he’s just dad. He and Mariah Riddlesprigger are the parents of two toddler boys which has opened their eyes to just how expensive raising children can be.
“Diapers, formula, wipes. $500,” Giannis said. “It’s insane.”
“Basic needs — food and diapers. It shouldn’t be out of reach for people,” Mariah said.
That’s the main motivation behind their diaper drive benefitting the Milwaukee Diaper Mission. The Milwaukee Diaper Mission is a nonprofit that collects diapers. The volunteers partner with local social service agencies to distribute diapering and menstrual supplies to families.
“Families are struggling in our city to afford diapers. They’re choosing between food and diapers on a weekly basis and that’s why we exist,” Meagan Johnson, Milwaukee Diaper Mission executive director.
Since the support of the Antetokounmpo family, the Mission has been able to reach more families. Its impact? More than 524,000 diapers were distributed to those who need them.
“You’re able to help so many families that are not able to afford that money that’s crazy to me,” Giannis said.
“Being able to take something off their plate is really huge for us,” Mariah said.
“We are so grateful to both Mariah and Giannis for being a part of what we do,” Johnson said.
“I’m happy that we’re able to do this,” Giannis said. “I’m very, very happy.”

The diaper drive is to make sure every baby in our community can be clean, healthy, and happy.
If you would like to drop off diapers, you can attend the diaper drive event located at the Deer District on Oct. 29, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
You can also drop off diapers at Milwaukee area Pick ‘n Save locations.
Together, we can provide clean diapers to children and families struggling with diaper need in Milwaukee.
