Fact Check-Child shouting profanity at Jill Biden during Diwali speech is from altered video clip

A video clip has been circulating online in which a child appears to shout a profanity at Jill Biden during a reception to celebrate Diwali.

The clip shows the First Lady, Jill Biden, speaking at a podium, saying: “When we realize that even the smallest flame can illuminate our path home, that the sweetest delicacies are made with love, that the most rewarding gifts are those we give to others.”

An expletive can then be heard, prompting some social media users to believe that a child shouted a profanity at the First Lady during her remarks.

The clip was shared via a Twitter account that routinely posts satirical content in support of former President Donald Trump (here).

The clip has been altered. No such expletive can be heard when viewing the original footage of the event uploaded by the White House official YouTube account, which can be seen (viewable from 28s)(bit.ly/3SDWl9l).
