Phil Jones, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo have been left out of Manchester United’s Champions League squad.
Three years ago, Gareth Southgate described Jones as England’s best defender, but the 28-year-old has rarely featured for United over the past two seasons because of injury and poor form.
Jones, who has 27 England caps, started only seven times for United last season and only two of those appearances came in the Premier League. He last played for United in the 6-1 win over Tranmere Rovers the FA Cup in January.
