Rangers expert not happy with Borna Barisic latest as fans fume – ‘don’t like to see it’

Borna Barisic does not deserve the criticism he is getting for his performance for Rangers against Liverpool.

That’s according to ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the left-back’s performance.

Barisic, 29, suffered a torrid evening as Rangers lost 7-1 to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday (12 October).

He was unable to stop Mohamed Salah, who was up against the defender in the second half, from scoring the fastest hattrick in the history of the Champions League.

Barisic was the subject of many fans’ ire on social media during and after the game.

Despite his poor performance, McLeish insists Barisic is not solely to blame for the Gers’ collapse.

“Barisic has had some really good performances for Rangers, he has represented his county too,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“It’s hard to blame one guy. If you analyse the game, look at it in slow motion, you will see there are many other players who could have done this or could have done that before the ball even gets to Barisic.

“It’s collective and I don’t think it is time to single someone out. You don’t like to see it. Espeically against a team like Liverpool when they are in that kind of form and they have that kind of world-class player.”

Rangers sit second in the Scottish Premiership, two points behind rivals Celtic.

The Gers are next in league action against Motherwell on Sunday (16 October).
