Liverpool ‘only feasible option’ for Kylian Mbappe after PSG betrayal makes January transfer a tantalising prospect

Kylian Mbappe has become the subject of links with Liverpool again ahead of the January transfer window after a remarkable breakdown in his relations with Paris Saint-Germain, according to multiple reports.
Mbappe signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain over the summer in order to end speculation over his future. Albeit, that has not lasted for long. Various sources are reporting on Tuesday that he has suffered from a breakdown in relations with his current employers.

The likes of RMC Sport, Le Parisien and Marca have all reported that Mbappe feels “betrayed” by Paris Saint-Germain already. Therefore, links are emerging about his potential exit from the club at the earliest opportunity in January.
In Marca‘s coverage of the news, long-term admirers Liverpool are described as the “only feasible option” for Mbappe. Paris Saint-Germain do not want to do business with another of his suitors from the summer, Real Madrid.
Hence, it has not taken long for links with Liverpool to resurface. Could they actually have a chance of signing him this time around?
Well, an update from Foot Mercato might be disheartening. According to the French outlet, Paris Saint-Germain would be seeking a transfer fee of €400million to sell Mbappe in January.
Equating to around £350million, it would be a world-record sum. Whether Liverpool would be able to go to such distances to sign Mbappe is debatable.
However, in terms of wages, Marca has claimed that Mbappe would be willing to reduce his salary to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
That said, his dream destination would remain Real Madrid. He envisages playing for them one day, so even if Paris Saint-Germain won’t sell him to them now, any other taker would risk losing their recruit to the side from the Spanish capital in the future.
But Mbappe would provide an instant boost to any team that could take him. Few elite sides need something like that as much as Liverpool, who have only won two of their first eight matches in the Premier League this season.
Whether they will be in a strong enough position by January to convince Mbappe might be another matter to be wary of.
Hence, the interest might be there – both for Mbappe to leave Paris Saint-Germain and for Liverpool to want him – but pulling off a deal in January would still appear to be extremely complicated.
Mbappe has scored 11 goals from 12 appearances in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain this season so far. His tally has included eight goals from nine games in Ligue 1 and three from three in the Champions League (before Tuesday’s group game against Benfica).
Obviously, the 23-year-old is an elite talent. He won the World Cup with France in 2018 and should be a key player for them at this year’s tournament in Qatar.
What the future holds for him at club level after will certainly be interesting to watch unfold.
