He was involved in a rondo session – piggy in the middle basically – and, along with Eddie Nketiah was the man trying to stop the ball reaching another Arsenal player.
However, in a clip of the exercise, Vieira can be seen taking a whack to the face when teammate Cedric flicks the ball up.
The incident caught the attention of all involved, and none more so than Gabriel Martinelli, who could be seen in hysterics following the drama.
It did go from bad to worse, though as Vieira limped out of training later on, appearing to be in pain after being caught on the right foot by one of his teammates during the session.
The Portuguese star was expected to start for the visit of Norway’s league champions.
Manager Mikel Arteta will therefore be hoping the knock is nothing serious.
Vieira arrived at Arsenal in the summer with a foot injury, after suffering a small fracture while on international duty in June.
