The Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne has described Andrew Thorburn’s resignation as Essendon CEO as a “crazy situation”.
Mr Thorburn resigned after concerns were raised about some of the views expressed by the City on a Hill church he chairs, which is part of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne.
Archbishop Dr Philip Freier told Virginia Trioli on Mornings that religious beliefs should be protected.
“It looks on the presenting facts as if there’s some sort of panic, there’s a forced choice being demanded of someone… putting someone in that situation where they need to make that choice seems to be unusual in our society,” he said.
