Black Panther Wakanda Forever trailer confirms Chadwick Boseman’s replacement

Shuri #Shuri

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer

Black Panther Wakanda Forever just received its latest trailer, just a matter of weeks before it is due to hit cinemas. The new footage shows off a number of new inclusions in the Marvel movie, including a funeral scene for T’Challa, remembering Chadwick Boseman’s contribution to the series. But the real question on fans’ lips has been: Who is going to take over as the Black Panther?

The final seconds of the trailer showed T’Challa’s younger sister, Shuri, standing in a tech-filled room in an airship.

As the trailer cut away from her, viewers saw a hole open up at the bottom of the aircraft, dropping a Black Panther figure out of the vehicle – a moment very reminiscent of the original Black Panther movie.

When the figure lands, the camera panned up to show a short, female figure in the vibranium Black Panther armour.

This likely confirms that it is Shuri who will be taking over from T’Challa after his in-universe death.

Fans have assumed Shuri would take over the mantle of the Black Panther considering she was next in line for the throne of Wakanda. And if Shuri takes over it would not be a massive surprise, considering her actor, Letitia Wright, recently alluded to it in an interview.

She was recently asked by Empire if she’s taking over from Boseman. Wright replied: “That’s a tricky question to answer. I had a chat about it with Ryan and Chad when we were making Black Panther, and we touched on it briefly.”

Shuri also takes over the mantle of the Black Panther briefly in the comic books while T’Challa was put in a coma by Doctor Doom. With this in mind, Wright added: “When I realised I was playing Shuri, it was something that I really looked forward to.”

If Shuri is not the new Black Panther, there have been a few other potential candidates primed to take over the superhero guise.

Nakia has been a fan-favourite since the first movie, and could be under the mask – but because she is not a member of the Wakandan royal family it may be a tough call.

Meanwhile, the leader of the rival family, M’Baku, has also been suggested as a great replacement for T’Challa.

Marvel has been tight-lipped since Boseman’s death on what would happen to the hero.

Boseman died on August 28, 2020 after suffering from colon cancer. His death came as a shock to people all over Hollywood as he kept news of his illness very quiet.

Likewise, the topic of T’Challa’s death has also been shrouded in mystery, but it will likely be the main focus of the upcoming sequel to the billion-dollar franchise.

The new trailer seems to suggest everyone is in mourning after T’Challa’s death, but it also introduced some major characters in earnest.

Viewers get a better look at Namor, the King of Atlantis, taking on Wakanda and some American soldiers on a ship in the ocean, suggesting that political tensions are high around the world.
