US, NATO need an off-ramp from Ukraine war (Your Letters)
NATO #NATO
To the Editor:
Clive Crook’s Sept. 27, 2022, opinion piece (“An off-ramp for Putin is repugnant but necessary,” Post-Standard) raised some good questions but left other — more important — questions unanswered.
Are the media reports about Russia’s military incompetence and the courage and skill of Ukraine’s forces really believable at face value? To me it sounds like propaganda from pro-American news agencies.
Are American and Western European officials ever going to admit that their own meddling in Ukraine’s politics is the main cause of the war? I doubt it.
Will these same officials accept the blame for the economic ill effects of their misguided sanctions against Russia? No, if Western Europe is cold or hungry, oh well.
The U.S. and NATO are the ones who most need an off-ramp. Isn’t it shameful that our government doesn’t know if it will have sufficient funds to keep government services functioning but it has plenty of millions to send to Ukraine’s comedian leader.
