The Australian’s legal affairs contributor Chris Merritt says the newly released National Anti-Corruption Commission bill is “handing immense power to the new commissioner”.
“Now the effect of this tribunal is to set up a separate mechanism that will effectively pass judgement on what was previously a sovereign house of parliament,” Mr Merritt told Sky News Australia.
“It’s a new world, we’re opening a door on a new system … we know nothing about it or how it’s going to work.
“I really hope the new commissioner knows how to do his job.”
