The Daily Sweat: Aaron Judge continues to chase 61 home runs as his Yankees attempt to clinch AL East

Yankees #Yankees

On Monday night, the New York Yankees had a chance to clinch the AL East and Aaron Judge had a chance to tie Roger Maris’ AL single-season home run record. Neither happened as the Toronto Blue Jays walked the Yankees off in the bottom of the 10th inning. On Tuesday, New York and Judge have another opportunity.

The Yankees’ magic number to clinch the division is any combination of two wins by them and/or losses by the Blue Jays. With the head-to-head matchup on Tuesday, the Yankees can knock that number down to zero with a victory. The game on Tuesday is a pick’em, with both teams at -110 on the moneyline. Jameson Taillon is on the mound for the Yankees, and he’ll be opposed by Jose Berrios for Toronto.

Aaron Judge hit his 60th home run of the season on September 20th against Pittsburgh. The eyes of the baseball world have been on him since. Fans simply trying to enjoy Wake Forest vs. Clemson on Saturday afternoon were interrupted by live look-ins for Judge at bats. He’s gone six straight games without a home run. This is only the fourth time this season he’s gone this long without hitting a home run.

Will Tuesday be the day? Judge has had a lot of success against Berrios in his career, batting ,400 against the Blue Jays’ pitcher in 20 at bats. He has two home runs off him in his career. Judge’s first home run of this historic season came way back on April 13th against Berrios. Can the story come full circle on Tuesday? Judge is currently +190 to hit a home run at BetMGM.

There’s a little over a week remaining in the MLB regular season, and while there isn’t much intrigue remaining, there is some. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians have already clinched their divisions. As mentioned above, the Yankees can join that list with a win tonight.

The St. Louis Cardinals can put the finishing touches on the Milwaukee Brewers in terms of the NL Central this week. The Cardinals have a 6.5-game lead in the division, and their magic number to clinch is three. The two teams meet for a 2-game set starting on Tuesday. If the Cardinals sweep, they’ll clinch the division. The Cardinals are a slight -115 favorite on the road on Tuesday with Miles Mikolas on the mound. Milwaukee is 1.5-games back of Philadelphia for the final wild card spot in the NL. The Phillies are -175 road favorites against the Cubs on Tuesday.

In the NL East, the New York Mets have a one game lead over the Atlanta Braves. Both teams are massive favorites on Tuesday, as the Mets are -225 favorites over Miami with Carlos Carrasco on the mound. The Braves are -225 favorites in Washington. This division will likely be decided this weekend when the Mets and Braves meet head-to-head.

There are two potential playoff previews on Tuesday’s slate as well. The Cleveland Guardians are -150 favorites against the Tampa Bay Rays. Shane Bieber is on the mound for Cleveland, while Corey Kluber returns to the Progressive Field mound as a visitor for the first time. Later on, the LA Dodgers are slight -115 road favorites against the San Diego Padres. Blake Snell goes up against Tyler Anderson.

Any other sports to bet on?

There’s no football on Tuesdays, so the attention turns to baseball. However, if baseball isn’t your thing, you have a few more options.

The United States soccer team plays a friendly against Saudi Arabia. The USA is a -115 favorite. There’s also nine games in the UEFA Nations League. The most intriguing game is probably Portugal vs. Spain. Portugal is a slight +135 favorite.

If you’re really trying to get crazy, the NHL preseason is underway. There’s 11 preseason games on Tuesday’s slate as the season is just two weeks away.
