‘Not as good’: Sky Sports pundit insists Everton player is a better passer than Arsenal star

Ramsdale #Ramsdale

Paul Robinson has told Sky Sports that the reason Aaron Ramsdale isn’t getting picked for England is due to Jordan Pickford being better at one key aspect.

Ramsdale is likely to be in the squad for the World Cup but as things stand, Everton ‘keeper Pickford very much remains the number one option in the sticks for Gareth Southgate.

Of course, there will always be some debate on who should be the number one. With Ramsdale impressing at high-flying Arsenal, there is a case to be made for him. However, according to former England stopper Robinson, Pickford’s ability with his feet means Gareth Southgate will select the Everton man over Ramsdale.

“Aaron Ramsdale, Dean Henderson with their feet, are not as good as Jordan Pickford, no. And it’s something that he’s had to work on and he’s worked very hard on it,” Robinson said on Sky Sports.

Pickford was a revelation for the Three Lions in the summer of 2021 and has slowly built up a reputation as being a dependable number one for his country. Ramsdale, meanwhile, has enjoyed a fine rise to prominence since signing for the Gunners for around £30m.

Pickford is the safe pair of hands England need and he’s never let them down. Gareth Southgate is big on that and for that reason alone, he’ll play in Qatar.

Ramsdale will get his time in the sun at some point but for now and the immediate future at least, Pickford will be England’s man in net. Dropping him would simply be pointless, and he’ll no doubt be keen to prove himself once again over the summer.

The big question really is over third choice. Nick Pope and Dean Henderson are both now playing regularly, although Pope does have the experience over the Nottingham Forest loanee.
