AFL Grand Final 2022: Geelong Cats veterans poke fun at club’s ageing list in hilarious Mad Monday stunt

Too old, too slow, too funny.
Geelong have used their famous Mad Monday celebrations to make light of criticism their list was too old to win a premiership, with a number of players piling out of a minivan borrowed from a local retirement home.
Patrick Dangerfield was the first player off the bus, using a walker to get from the car park to the pub, followed closely by Isaac Smith, Shaun Higgins, Joel Selwood and Tom Hawkins among others.
The Cats were the oldest team to ever take the field in an AFL game when they thumped Sydney in Saturday’s grand final.
Smith, the Norm Smith Medallist comedically tumbled off the bus and hit the pavement at the front of waiting reporters. Dangerfield referred to him as “Norm” as he picked his premiership teammate up off the ground.
Ruck pair Jon Ceglar and Rhys Stanley were both in on the act, with Ceglar emerging with a smoking pipe in his mouth.
An emotional final quarter goal sparked intensified speculation over the retirement of captain Joel Selwood and the now four-time premiership player is expected to consider his future this week.

Selwood bristled at reporters during pre-grand final press conferences, claiming they were “trying to push him out the door”.
The Cats’ third day of premiership celebrations are continuing at Wharf Shed in Geelong.
Jeremy Cameron arrived as a giant chicken, even handing eggs around, while beloved water boy Sam Moorfoot, whose post-game video with Joel Selwood has gone viral online, came dressed as Cameron, sporting geelong jumper and fishing gear.
Players, coaches and the premiership cup were presented in front of thousands of adoring fans outside GMHBA Stadium yesterday.
It comes after Jeremy Cameron posted a video to Instagram of him having to wrangle a cow he had given his premiership medal on Saturday night.
The Cats’ mad Monday functions have produced some hilarious costumes over the years, including Joel Selwood’s famous Mick Fanning costume and Tom Hawkins dressed as Colonel Sanders.
