Wilder announces boxing return following double defeat by Fury

Deontay Wilder has revealed his three-fight hit list after Robert Helenius. The Bronze Bomber was keen not to overlook his upcoming foe but declared that Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, and Andy Ruiz Jr are all possible next opponents providing he beats The Nordic Nightmare next month.

Wilder and Helenius are set to square off on October 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The contest is a WBC eliminator bout which will lead to a final eliminator against Andy Ruiz Jr for a shot at the coveted green strap – currently held by Tyson Fury.

However, Wilder has more options than just Ruiz Jr. Usyk recently called out Wilder for a fight next year while Eddie Hearn recently revealed that he had sent a ‘big money offer’ to Wilder for a fight with Joshua.

Weighing in on his options in an interview with FightHype.com, he said: “Man we’ve got a lot of great fights out there. They’ve been talking about the Usyk thing. Like I said, I’m not looking past anyone.

“You’ve got the Ruiz fight, that’s going to be huge as well. You know, Joshua. Everybody’s still out there. When you have an exciting [former] heavyweight champion everything else comes back to life.

“People get the interest back in it, the money goes up for all the fighters. I’ve had many fighters [say], ‘Man come back, we need you back’. Only the future can tell what it holds, but I think the future is bright and there’s a lot of things in store for the boxing fans in general.”

Usyk is expected to be ringside for the Wilder-Helenius fight as he attempts to force his way ahead of Ruiz Jr after breakdowns in negotiations with Tyson Fury. Fury and Usyk were initially in talks to stage the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era, but negotiations fell through after Usyk ruled himself out of competition until 2023.

Talking about the prospect of Usyk attending the show, Wilder continued: “I’ve heard Usyk is going to be there and I’ll be looking forward to seeing him. It’s going to be a great fight, it’s going to be a great fight overall and why not come and see a good show.

“We gonna welcome him with open arms and I hope he’s taking notes.”
