Steelers sticking with Mitch Trubisky at starting quarterback, Mike Tomlin says after losing to Browns, 29-17
Mitch #Mitch
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Mitch Trubisky’s return to Northeast Ohio on Thursday night did not end well for him and his Steelers as they fell to the Browns, 29-17, at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Despite whispers growing from Pittsburgh fans that the team should bench the former Mentor star for rookie first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett, Mike Tomlin squashed those ideas in his postgame press conference.
“I’m not interested in this mindset,” Tomlin said after the game. “The answer to that question is definitively no.
“I thought (Mitch) made some plays. But we all collectively came up short. That’s how we measure performance. Winning is our business, and we didn’t handle our business.”
Trubisky was 20 of 32 passing for 207 yards and had a quarterback rating of 81.1. He has only thrown two touchdown passes this season.
Trubisky helped lead the Steelers on two touchdown drives in the first half, but his team’s offense registered just three points in the second half. His longest pass of the season was his 36-yard pass to George Pickens in which the rookie receiver made a spectacular one-handed catch.
