Fiona Bruce, joined by Philip Mould, is back with a new series of Fact or Fortune? on BBC One, discovering the curious paintings hanging on our walls across the UK.

She is also one of the favourites to take over Jeremy Paxman on University Challenge, following his exit earlier this month.

Bookies such as Betfair seem to think so, with Fiona the current 2/1 favourite to lead the programme.

If that is the case, the 58-year-old will have a busy schedule ahead of her, though she has been hosting BBC programmes since joining Panorama in 1989.

It was that year when she met her husband, Nigel Sharrocks, with the two being married since.

Nigel Sharrocks, 62, is a non-executive chairman of Digital Cinema Media, an advertisement agency with clients including Odeon, Vue and Cineworld, with the latter recently facing bankruptcy.

He is also the chair of Local Planet, another ad agency.

Nigel has had a long and successful career in the media industry, as he previously worked at MediaCom, Aegis Media global and Warner Bros Pictures UK.

In fact, it was through one of his previous roles that they met in the first place, as Fiona briefly took on a job at BMP, where Nigel was company director at the time.

The pair first met in 1989, though it wasn’t until 1994 when they tied the knot in Islington, London.

Nigel has stayed away from the public eye, unlike Fiona, with the Guardian previously reporting she said he is “happy to be in the background and let her get on with her thing”.

Today, they live in Belsize Park, London and also have a second home in Sydenham, Oxfordshire.

Fiona and Bruce share two children together, Sam and Mia Sharrocks.

They are both adults today, with Sam being born in 1998 and Mia in 2001.

Mia’s birth actually made headlines for a controversial reason, with Fiona returning to work just 16 days after her birth.

She addressed the concerns in The Telegraph, saying: “I’m not some mad career monster.

“I don’t want people to think I’m setting a terribly bad example here – the last thing I would advocate is women rushing back to work with a baby.”
