Peep! Peep! Peeeeeep! It’s all over at Goodison Park, where Everton maintain their 100 per cent record and go top of the Premier League.Their seventh consecutive win in all competitions makes this their best start to a season since 1894, according to BT Sport commentator Ian Darke.

James Rodriguez bagged a brace, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina scored wonderful headers for the home side. Neal Maupay’s first half goal, in which the striker capitalised on a Jordan Pickford blunder, was rather eclipsed by a late, late screamer from Yves Bissouma.

89 min: Mina gets in the way AGAIN! Doucoure lost the ball a few yards outside his own penalty area and Trossard pounced. He advanced into the area and sidefooted the ball to Maupay, who looked a certainty to score until big Yerry dived in to intercept. Outstanding defending.

88 min: Brighton win a throw-in, deep in Everton territory and take it very quickly. Everton win the ball back and embark on another counter-attack with Theo Walcott on the ball. He has a stop put to his gallop and Brighton win it back.

Everton extend their lead with a lightning fast counter-attack. It’s similar to their third, with Alex Iwobi cutting in from the left to play the ball to Doucoure on the edge of the six yard box. He plays the ball wide to Rodriguez, who scores his second of the afternoon into a gaping net from an almost identical position from where he scored his first.

69 min: Brighton may be 3-1 down but they haven’t let their heads drop. They’re continuing to press for a second goal but lose the ball in transition and Everton score their fourth.

67 min: Solly March leathers the ball across the face of goal and Jordan Pickford can only punch the ball straight to Neal Maupay near the penalty spot. As the Brighton striker shapes to shoot, Michael Keane relieves him of possession, sparing more blushes for his goalkeeper.

65 min: Lewis Dunk is penalised for a foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, moments before Aaron Connolly is withdrawn by Graham Potter and replaced by Adam Lallana.

Graham Potter’s men are not only poor at defending set pieces, they’re not particularly good at taking them either. 43 min: Jordan Pickford looks disgusted with himself following his latest error and so he should – it was a bad one. Trossard swivelled to volley Lamptey’s cross at the far post but succeeded only in firing the ball into the ground. As it bounced upwards, Pickford made a pig’s ear of what should have been a straightforward catch and could only parry the ball in front of him, where Maupay was waiting to devour any scraps that came his way.

The right-back has been outstanding for his side so far this season but has been well shackled by Everton’s defence.
