Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens odds, picks and predictions

Miami #Miami

The Baltimore Ravens (1-0) welcome the Miami Dolphins (1-0) to M&T Bank Stadium Sunday with kickoff at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dolphins at Ravens odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Ravens are coming into this game fresh off a win over the Joe Flacco-led New York Jets. QB Lamar Jackson and company did enough to secure a 24-9 win, but they certainly didn’t look great.

Jackson had 6 carries for 17 yards as the Ravens, a run-dominant team, had just 63 rushing yards. The former MVP quarterback did have 3 TD passes.

As for the new-look Dolphins, they quickly found a way to involve WR Tyreek Hill, who they obtained in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. Hill ended the Week 1 win with 8 receptions for 94 yards.

Miami had just 65 yards on the ground in their 20-7 win over the New England Patriots. The Dolphins have an elite secondary led by CB Xavien Howard and CB Byron Jones.

    Money line

    PASS.

I wouldn’t play this line until I see what happens with the Ravens’ secondary. If either Peters or Humprey is forced to sit, the value on Miami instantly becomes unbeatable.

The Dolphins did little on the ground, so at full strength, Baltimore should be able to slow the Miami attack now. Without those key players, it could be a different story.

If either Ravens starting corner is out and this can be gotten at +140 or better, I’d take a flier on it after seeing what the Dolphins showcased a week ago.

    Against the spread

    BET RAVENS -3.5 (-112).

We’re going to assume that all 4 questionable players are good to go for Sunday evening. In that event, I like the Ravens to come out on top as their secondary should be able to have its way.

Pro Football Focus dubbed the Ravens the league’s best secondary prior to the season’s commencement. With Miami adding multiple versatile talents offensively, no one quite knew what its team would look like.

Especially with a new coach, the Dolphins were a wild card, but they are going to trust QB Tua Tagovailoa. They were No. 1 in pass rate over expectations. That same success that he had against New England is unlikely to be repeated in Week 2.

Similarly, the Ravens have a run-heavy offense that didn’t get much traction in Week 1. That should change in Week 2, and given the Dolphins elite cornerbacks, it almost has to change.

Starting RB J.K. Dobbins is close to a return and could make an impact. If he plays and the Ravens cornerbacks are healthy, I’ll take them to win and cover. Both teams were 1-0 against the spread in Week 1.

    Over/Under

    LEAN OVER 44.5 (-108).

Both teams went under their projected total in Week 1, but it wasn’t due to their ineptness. The Patriots did little offensively, scoring just 7, and the Jets put up 9.

Both the Dolphins and Ravens put up more than the Patriots and Jets combined.

While the secondaries are solid, the Ravens have a superstar quarterback and the Dolphins have 2 elite receivers along with an offensive-minded head coach.

Given the health of the Ravens and additions of the Dolphins, most trends from last season seem mute, so I’ll side with the Ravens and then just prefer the OVER 44.5 (-108).
