The combined might of Leeds United and the San Francisco 49ers is a “showbiz” prospect for commercial partners.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the potential for joint sponsorship deals between both clubs.
The 49ers, one of America’s foremost NFL teams, first bought into Leeds in 2018 and have steadily increased their shareholding to 44 per cent.
It has been widely reported that the 49ers have the option to buy out Andrea Radrizzani’s remaining shares by 2024.
In an interview with SportsPro last Thursday (8 September), 49ers CMO Alex Chang revealed that a number of brands have inquired about joint deals between the two outfits.
Maguire explained why this could be an attractive option for both commercial partners and for the Leeds-49ers coalition.
“Sponsors are looking for eyeballs and a bit of showbiz,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“By combining the 49ers and Leeds, Alex Chang clearly recognises that the opportunity to have your brand associated with one of the country’s most iconic football clubs has benefits and rewards.
“By tapping into that joint promise that both clubs bring, it is much more likely that will result in much higher revenue streams for the organisation as a whole.”
Leeds generated £36million worth of commercial income in 2020-21, the last financial year on record.
That figure was part of total revenues of £171m.
