Roger Federer’s final professional event – the Laver Cup – explained
Roger #Roger
Roger Federer surprised and saddened the tennis world Thursday morning when he announced he will be retiring from the professional game after the upcoming Laver Cup, which takes place next week in London, England.
If you’re like me and you like tennis but aren’t a tennis diehard then you were probably shocked a bit to hear the news of the 20-time Grand Slam winner calling it a career. Then, like me, you might also have been wondering – so what is the Laver Cup?
Well, let’s learn about this special event, which takes place this year from Sept. 23-25, together, shall we?
It’s a three-day event that features Team Europe vs. Team World. The format is familiar the Ryder Cup in golf in that it takes place every two years and is played in different cities each year and features the best players from Europe vs the best players from the rest of the world. It started in 2017 so it is still young but it’s also looks like a lot of fun.
Here is a full schedule of the matches.
Great question!
