Elvis Presley returns to the stage thanks to deepfake technology on ‘AGT’ finale
During part one of the America’s Got Talent finale Tuesday night, the top 11 acts of Season 17 took the stage one last time. While all of the acts were pretty stellar, one act had all the judges completely blown away. Metaphysic, a group that uses artificial intelligence technology to create hyper-real content, turned Simon Cowell into a world-class opera singer during the auditions, then brought Howie Mandel and Terry Crews into the mix during the Quarterfinals. The AGT judges wondered how the group could possibly outdo themselves for the finals, and on Tuesday, that’s exactly what they did when they brought the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Las Vegas, back to life. Seeing Elvis Presley on stage with Cowell, plus backup singers Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara, performing “You’re the Devil in Disguise” was a game changer. Following the performance, Klum stated, “It is so good. It is beyond good. First of all, can we talk about how good I was. I was amazing. I was so amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever sounded this good in my life,” while Vergara added, “I did amazing, but not as amazing as Heidi. I think it’s so much fun when you guys come to the show because it’s something so different and this year, this season, I mean, the range of acts… it’s going to be so hard for people to vote and for someone to win because this is something we’ve never, ever had on AGT.” While viewers have been divided over the deepfake technology act in the past, on Tuesday, they took to social media with a different opinion, taking into consideration why they may actually deserve to be a Vegas act. One person tweeted: “Metaphysic should win #AGT. Think of the money in Vegas bringing back old acts to feature in concert. Unbelievable act.” Crews asked Cowell if his mind was blown. Cowell responded, “Everything was blown. I gotta be honest with you, Terry. I think, you know, let’s remember what this night is all about. It’s about winning, it’s about the money, but, more importantly, it’s about being in Vegas. This, in my opinion, is probably the most incredible, original act we’ve ever had.” Cowell concluded, “You are, in my opinion, you’re so creative. You’re going to have your own show in Vegas, no question about it. The Luxor Hotel – if you’re watching this, get ready.
