GoldenEye 007 is officially coming soon to Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch

Goldeneye #Goldeneye

It’s now official – N64 classic first person shooter GoldenEye 007 is coming back to Xbox consoles courtesy of Rare.

If that wasn’t enough, the shooter – first released on the N64 back in 1997, will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass.

The news was announced by the official Rare Twitter account, during this afternoon’s Nintendo Direct and on both the Xbox Wire blog, as well as the official James Bond website.

GoldenEye 007 – Xbox Game Pass features and more

The Xbox Game Pass version of the shooter will be part of the Rare Replay collection. It’s actually been “faithfully recreated” rather than just a straight port, with some modern features to boot.

This includes improved control options – (yes, including dual analogue support) – native 16:9 resolution all the way up to 4K Ultra HD resolution, and a full suite of achievements to unlock.

It’ll also include the classic campaign mode, and of course four-player split screen multiplayer mode too. Just make sure not to get into any arguments about who’s playing as Oddjob, yeah?

It’ll be available on Xbox Game Pass subscribers for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles when it launches. However, those who already own game compendium collection Rare Replay will also get it for no extra charge as a bonus.

GoldenEye 007 – Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack

The Nintendo Switch version, meanwhile – won’t get quite as many bells and whistles as its Xbox cousin for obvious hardware limitation reasons.

However, it will be included as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack for no additional charge as part of its classic console offerings.

Furthermore, it seems the Nintendo Switch version will be the only one to support online play, letting you shoot your pals globally online.

GoldenEye 007 Xbox and Switch predicted release window

Neither version of the game has a release date yet, with Nintendo and Xbox both only claiming the games are “coming soon” – we’ll keep you in the loop should we hear a specific release date.

We don’t think, given the nature of their announcement, they’ll be too far away. Hopefully, it’ll be by the end of the year, as it’d make a lovely Christmas treat.
