Lewis Hamilton’s five-word radio message as Yuki Tsunoda retirement helps Max Verstappen

Tsunoda #Tsunoda

Lewis Hamilton has hit out at Yuki Tsunoda after his retirement helped Max Verstapepn in the Dutch Grand Prix. Tsunoda stopped on track complaining his tyres had not been fitted correctly before returning to the pits.

His mechanics then checked the car and sent him back on track moments later but the Japanese star stopped three corners later. It came as Hamilton was hunting down Verstappen on better tyres with just a handful of laps remaining.

However the Virtual Safety Car allowed Verstappen to lose less time in the pit stops and maintain a 12 second lead. Hamilton hit back on team radio moments later, he said: “That VSC has stuffed us.”

F1 fans were shocked at Alpha Tauri’s decision to send Tsunoda back out with some calling foul play from the Red Bull junior team.

Twitter user @mtenej said: “Let me get this straight. You stop on track because the car doesn’t feel right, then the team tells you it is fine, you enter the pits where they examine it and let you out again. But the second you leave the pits, the car is not fine and you park on track. Convenient.”

His lead lasted just one corner as the Dutchman swept past on the soft tyres. The Mercedes star took to team radio to criticise his team’s strategy. He said: “That was the biggest **** up.”

The result also allows Russell to extend his championship advantage over Hamilton by a further six points. It means the former Williams star will head to the Italian Grand Prix 30 points ahead of his more experienced team-mate.

Verstappen won the Dutch Grand Prix to secure his fourth consecutive win for the first time in his career.
