Daisy May Cooper: why I ended my marriage when I had a newborn baby

Cooper #Cooper

Daisy May Cooper and I are sitting at a cosy booth in a London venue conducting an autopsy on her failed marriage. Her four-year-old daughter, Pip, is with us too, watching cartoons on her mum’s phone until Cooper distracts her with, “Draw me some pictures, darling. Draw me every single animal there is in the world, see how long that takes you.” The child seems sweet and shy. “But she called me a ‘stunning bumhole’ this morning. She really enjoyed saying that,” Cooper says, betraying a certain degree of pride. Pip has clearly inherited her mum’s sense of humour.

The 36-year-old screenwriter and comedian’s stock in trade is blunt, everyday, hilarious truth. It’s what made a Bafta-winning smash hit out of her BBC mockumentary series
