As if nabbing Johnny Marr as an opening act wasn’t enough for the The Killers’ ongoing “Imploding the Mirage Tour,” another high-profile rock star joined the band during their stop at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium last weekend. To cap off The Killers’ August 27th performance, Lindsey Buckingham made a surprise appearance during the encore, hopping onstage for assists on the band’s 2020 tune “Caution,” as well as the Fleetwood Mac classic “Go Your Own Way” and the closer to end all closers: “Mr. Brightside.”
Killers frontman Brandon Flowers introduced Buckingham to the audience about halfway through “Caution,” just in time for Fleetwood Mac icon to perform the song’s guitar solo (along with some very appropriate pyrotechnics). After Flowers and Buckingham rocked out to “Go Your Own Way” together, Marr also came onstage to rip on “Mr. Brightside” — earlier in the evening, the ex-Smiths guitarist helped The Killers out for a cover of the former band’s “This Charming Man,” which they’re known to do pretty often.
While it’s true that “Mr. Brightside” doesn’t quite have the same sort of intricate Smiths guitar riffs that testify to Marr’s legendary status, that doesn’t really matter when the entire arena has turned into a massive group singalong. This high-profile team up just proves what we already know: Who doesn’t love “Mr. Brightside,” or “Go Your Own Way?” See some fan-captured footage of Buckingham and Marr performing with The Killers below.
The Killers are currently on tour in support of their two albums from last year: Imploding the Mirage and Pressure Machine. If you still need tickets, head over to Ticketmaster. This fall, Buckingham will embark on his own headlining tour in support of his 2021 self-titled album, which you can get tickets for here. Earlier this year, Marr shared a double album called Fever Dreams Pts 1-4.
