The Denver Broncos agreed to a five-year contract extension with quarterback Russell Wilson on Thursday that’s worth $245 million and includes $165 million guaranteed.

Here’s a sampling of how Twitter reacted to the news.

Confirmed with a source that Russell Wilson has agreed to a five-year, $245 million extension with the Broncos. $165 million guaranteed, as @AdamSchefter reported.

Was only a matter of when the deal got done, but now Wilson and Denver are in agreement.

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett’s reaction, via text, to QB Russell Wilson’s five-year, $245 million extension: “F— yeah!” Suffice it to say, the new HC is pretty excited about where he and his new QB could take things.

🏀Nikola Jokic: 5-years, $264M extension on July 1.

🏈Russell Wilson: 5-years, $245M extension on September 1.

Pretty good summer for franchise players in Denver…

The top-5 highest paid QB in terms of average annual value now:1. Aaron Rodgers: $50.271M2. Russell Wilson: $49M3. Kyler Murray: $46.1M4. Deshaun Watson: $46M5. Patrick Mahomes: $45M

The #Broncos acquired Russell Wilson without surrendering more than two first-round picks and locked him down without fully-guaranteeing his new deal.

Massive Ws all around.

Russell Wilson’s contract expires 7 years from now.

Seven years ago, only two NFL players made $20 million per year or more. Drew Brees made just under $24 million, the most in the league.

The market probably won’t double in the next seven years again. But $49m is a good deal.

— Henry Chisholm (@HenryChisholm) September 1, 2022

For the next seven years, Russell Wilson is under contract for an average of $42.9 million.

That does NOT reset the market. What a deal for the Broncos.

Russell Wilson really signed a more team friendly deal than Deshaun Watson.

The Browns, lol. Lol.

Locking up Russell Wilson without having to reset the quarterback market is a huge W for George Paton and the Broncos

By the time we’re halfway through Russell Wilson’s new contract it’s going to be looked at as a massive bargain.

— Zach Bye (@byesline) September 1, 2022

Russell Wilson is going to be here for the next 7️⃣ years.

Any time the number 7️⃣ is involved with anything Broncos related it’s a very good thing.

The day George Paton gave up nine assets for Russell Wilson, he was all-in. This will be his legacy as Broncos’ GM — and I think it’s pretty smart to bet it on Russel Wilson. Let’s Ridddddeeeeee.

The five-year extension will add to Wilson’s existing two-year contract, so the QB is now signed with the Broncos for the next seven season.
