Christie preparing Trump for first presidential debate

Former Gov. Chris Christie is back to helping President Donald Trump.
New Jersey’s 55th governor is readying Trump to prepare for the upcoming presidential debate against former Vice President Joe Biden.
“We had a little debate prep before we came here,” Trump told reporters Sunday at a White House news conference with Christie and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the audience.
It’s a role Christie is familiar with.
In 2016, the former governor played the part of then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Trump was reportedly pleased with Christie’s prep in 2016, telling people that Christie “was better than Hillary” and “harder to debate than Hillary” in 2016, according to a recent report from Axios. Christie is among a small group of advisers helping Trump to prepare for the debate, according to the report.
Christie challenged Trump for the Republican nomination that year. But after a lackluster showing in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, Christie dropped out of the race and became an early Trump supporter.
The first of three presidential debates is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 p.m.
