Amber Heard’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, was not pleased upon seeing Johnny Depp making a surprise virtual appearance at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
The Hollywood actor surprised viewers when he appeared as the award show’s Moon Person during Sunday night’s live broadcast. Depp, 59, was not physically present at the ceremony, but his face was digitally superimposed on the helmet of the floating figure.
“And you know what? I needed the work,” he told the audience as the Moon Person hovered inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
After the show returned from a break, Depp once again emerged and said, “Hey VMAs, let’s get back to the f—ing music, shall we?”
During his third appearance, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star joked,” I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes … any old thing you need.”
After Depp’s stint on the live show, Heard’s 34-year-old sister took to her Instagram Story to react. “I stand with Amber Heard,” read the message she shared along with “DVMA’s,” seemingly referencing the actor’s domestic violence, as per People.
“@MTV, you’re disgusting and clearly desperate! I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters,” Henriquez wrote.
While the 36-year-old actress’ younger sister was not happy about Depp’s virtual cameo, many praised the Hollywood star’s sense of humor and expressed how impressed they were with his surprise appearance at the awards ceremony on social media.
“He wasn’t even nominated, but Johnny Depp won the #VMAs,” one wrote on Twitter.
“Johnny Depp out here at the VMAs taking the piss out of all the trolls & everyone else that made some b—chy remark about him… and I’m f—king loving it,” another added.
Depp’s former lawyer, Adam Waldman, also reacted to his VMAs cameo by leaving a celebratory raising-hands emoji on the clip of his appearance uploaded on MTV’s official Instagram page.
On June 1, the jury found that Heard defamed Depp in her 2018 op-ed about domestic violence and abuse even though she did not name him in the article. He was awarded more than $10 million in damages. The actress has since been working on appealing the verdict.
